Character Drawing Challenge #40: Birdie bookworm

Little birdie the bookworm 😊 Each week I’ll be creating a character using one of my Character Drawing Toolkits.

If you’re looking to improve your drawing skills I encourage you to join in the challenge and commit to one character drawing each week. You’re welcome to recreate my character as a practice round, or challenge yourself to create your own!
The idea is to stretch your imagination, draw without judgement, improve your skills and, most of all, have fun!

Below is a breakdown of the Toolkit I used, the final character I created and the shape I used to achieve it. Feel free to pin it for later!

Shapes I used from the Character Drawing Toolkit Bird Edition: Full bodies: Chubby 3/4 view / Beaks: Tiny bird 3/4

Brushes used to apply colour: pencil brush from the Plush Pencil & Dry Media then scanned and imported into Adobe Illustrator to apply colour which is the same technique used in this Skillshare class.

Don’t forget to tag me or use the hashtag #letsdrawlisaglanz, can’t wait to see what you draw!

I admire your artwork, have purchased all your Procreate brushes and watched many of your tutorials hereon Skillshare, and with Design Cuts. I appreciate all the instruction and advise you offer artists.

I was wondering if you have any articles or videos that you have shared where you discuss how you plan a collection and come up with your concepts? For example, your artwork usually has the character performing an action, do you you build a character profile and personality before starting the sketch? How do you come up with the cute activities they do, and then how do you determine the collection has enough elements?

If you don’t have a tutorial or class on this topic I hope it is something you may consider in the future?

Thanks so much for your time.
