Pattern brushes are super fun to use in Procreate! But what if you need to change the scale of the pattern, or rotate the repeat?
Fortunately that’s super easy!
Included in The Instant Artist Procreate Brush Collection are some fun, time-saving pattern brushes. In this quick tutorial I’ll show you how to adjust the scale of the pattern and rotate the pattern direction to suit your project and illustration.
You’ll also learn how to reset the brush back to it’s original condition, this is super handy of you’ve made a bunch of changes and can’t remember the original settings.
Hope you find it useful! Happy drawing!
oh wow! i never knew you could adjust the brushes like that, especially in the direction on the pattern! thank you for sharing!
I know right! When I discovered that I was like “whaaaaaattt??”! So happy you found the tutorial was useful 🙂
So very useful, Lisa. Thank you very much for sharing this brush-manipulation tip.
It’s a great pleasure Roberta!
Sooo useful! Thanks so much!
Yay! So glad you found it useful!
Very helpfull thanks Lisa!
Is it also possible to adjust the size of the brush? Sometimes the brushsize is still to big, even when I make it 1%… I have that with the Raphael Shader for example… I already tried to adjust the scale.
It’s a pleasure! Glad you found it helpful 🙂 You can adjust the brush size under the “Properties” tab. To do that click on the brush to bring up “Brush Studio”, select “Properties”, then under “Brush Behaviour” slide the “Minimum Size” slider down – only by about 10% should do it. You can do the same for the “Maximum Size” to make it bigger. Hope that helps! If you have any other questions at all, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Hey Lisa, love these! I wondered if there was a way to make these patterns seamless so I could use them for a repeatable pattern tile background? x
So glad you are enjoying the brushes Georgie. The pattern brushes are seamless, but if I’m understanding you correctly you need to create a repeat tile so you need control over the size or placement of the motifs, is that correct? If so unfortunately I don’t know of a way to do that without first painting out an area of the pattern then finding the repeat and create your tile according to that size. It’ll be quite tricky to do that. Can’t think of a better way unfortunately.
I love your latest pattern brushes in the trove but not sure how to change their color schemes. Any tips on quick/non-tedious ways to do it?
Hi Allie, So glad you like them!
Do you mean change the colour scheme for the Adobe Illustrator swatches or adding colour to the patterns in Procreate?
This is amazing, definitely going to try this out. Just realised I’m only missing one of your sets. Will need to get that as well
Thank you so much Chantelle! Really appreciate you being a customer xx Glad you enjoyed the tutorial. Happy creating!
Dear Lisa,
A wonderful gift, thank you so much!
How is it possible to get your or even own multicolors in that brush?
Can i import one of the jpgs somehow in the grain-source of the brush to make it colorful?
Thanks so much for your info
Katja
Hi Katja,
So glad you like the free pattern brushes. The multicolour patterns in the set are the Adobe Illustrator swatches. At this stage Procreate doesn’t support full colour images in the “Grain” menu (yet!), it will always convert to greyscale. The easiest way to add different colours to certain areas within the pattern design is to Alpha lock the layer and paint in the areas. This goes quite quickly especially if you only use the pattern in smaller areas like on a characters clothing item.
Hope that helps! If you have any other questions at all, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
