Other ways to make money as a designer

If you’re a freelance designer, you’ll know all to well that income can be erratic! Some months are great, others not so great. But these days it’s pretty easy to add an extra stream of revenue as a buffer against those uncertain months. And if you’re full time employed, it’s a great way to save for that long-awaited holiday.

The beauty about the options available is you decide how much effort you want to put in. If you just need a few extra bob you could find a passive income stream that doesn’t take up too much of your time, like selling designs on print-on-demand sites. Or if you want to give it a real go and see where it takes you, you could quite possibly end up resigning from your job to follow your new, way more successful, side business!

That’s essentially what happened to me. What started out as a side dabble in selling graphic resources online, ended up being my full time income source. This now allows me to do what I’ve always dreamed of which is to create art everyday! And get paid to do it!

In the latest episode of the Honest Designers Show, we talk about alternative ways you can make money as a designer. This ranges from ‘passive’ income, to full-on side businesses. Alternative income streams can support you doing what you love, and really help you to be less reliant on client work.
