Painting your pet in Procreate can feel a little intimidating at first, especially when you’re faced with fluffy fur, tiny details, expressive eyes and all those tricky little features.
But it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.
In this relaxed, impromptu-style tutorial, I’ll walk you through the techniques I use when painting your pet in Procreate, using my beloved Cody, our little rescue Papillon-cross dog, as the subject. Along the way, I’ll share simple tips to help make the process feel more approachable, enjoyable and fun, especially if you’re newer to painting pets digitally.
You’ll learn how I approach long-haired pets with watercolour brushes in Procreate, including ways to simplify fur texture, tackling white areas in your pet, and create a more character style look instead of getting caught-up in being too realistic.
For this tutorial, I used the Blot and Bloom brushes from the Master Your Brushes series, but you can absolutely follow along using your favourite watercolour brushes as well.
Let’s paint… 🎨
