The platform I use and why

I use WordPress with WooCommerce to run my shop.

The overwhelming reasons for my decision is the flexibility, independence and versatility. Flexible in design, independent from a tied-in plan, and versatile in its function – there’s a plugin for everything!

Transaction fees played a role in my decision too. Given that I pay a percentage of every sale on the marketplaces where I sell my products, I didn’t like the idea of my own website paying yet another third party for every transaction (over and above the banking fees every online shop is subject to). My choice may not be the most cost effective, but the control I have over my shop is more important.

Over the years my business has changed and grown. I’ve gone from hosting my exclusive licensing portfolio (which I no longer focus on) to selling graphic resources and digital brushes. And more recently I host my courses on my own website too.

I don’t think other platforms would have been able to accommodate all those changes as well as WordPress has.

To add to that, my website design has changed quite substantially over time and because I’ve learned how to use this platform over the years, I now do all the designing, tweaking, and adding myself.

The best part about that is I get to create exactly what I want and don’t need to pay someone else to do it. Of course you could get proficient at any platform, but with the versatility of WordPress, you have the freedom to design a wonderfully bespoke website and build your own world!
