Drawn to Whimsy Workbook

A practical guide to drawing adorable animal characters

How to use the Workbook and Resources

I’m so excited you’ve chosen to join me on this creative adventure! Below you’ll find a quick suggested approach for using the material included. I’ve provided some handy goodies that will support you in creating your characters and working through this workbook including cheat sheets, templates and exercises you can download – you’ll find all these in the relevant section listed below or in the sidebar of the course.

Drawn To Whimsy Workbook

The workbook is available both online and offline. Even though it’s digital, I’ve designed it to feel as close to a real book as possible. For the best online experience, I recommend viewing it on a desktop in full screen mode. To download the full e-book, you’ll find the download button under “How To View & Use Your Workbook”. Just click this button below to head there.

Cheat Sheets

The Cheat Sheets are great for using with a split-screen setup alongside your Procreate canvas as a quick reference. They’re created in a long, narrow shape so it only takes up a small amount of screen space. To use them follow the instructions included in the Cheat Sheet or download page to get it set up on your iPad.

Exercises Worksheets

The book includes templates as a fun and structured way to approach the exercises and drawing prompts. However, with the exception of the exercise on page 23 in the Warming Up section, you’re more than welcome to dive straight into the exercises on a blank canvas if you prefer. If you’d like to use the templates, download and import them into Procreate.

THANK YOU Lisa! I’ve just browsed through the new Drawn To Whimsy Workbook, which is TERRIFIC! Another high quality product. Great tips for drawing, Procreate and developing characters. Thank you for sharing your process. Seeing your example of drawings from 2015 and 2025, was very encouraging for me. I can’t wait to start the lessons. Thanks again! Judy

I’m sooo happy you found that encouraging! We so often forget that improvement is inevitable when we simply keep practising, so I have absolutely no doubt you’ll see lovely progress in your work as you move through the lessons. Thank you so much for your amazing comments and kind words about my products, it truly means the world to me!

    Hi Lisa,

Absolutely incredible!!! So thankful for this amazing knowledge you’re providing.
Just a quick question. I switched to drawing on the Wacom Movink Pro 14 due to the screen being like paper, however, it’s Android.
I can obtain Photoshop, but I’m not sure if the concept will be the same.
I feel like with the IPad I’m drawing on ice. Does that make sense, can you advise as to the slippery feeling? I know they offer a rough paper like screen topper but wondered how you manage.

    Sincerely,

    Patti Bonsdale

    • Hi Patti!

Thank you so much for your amazing feedback, I’m really glad you’re finding it helpful! And yes, that “drawing on ice” feeling makes total sense, that’s exactly how I felt when I first started on the iPad too. What completely changed things for me was using the Paperlike screen protector, it adds just enough resistance to make it feel like drawing on paper again. I honestly wouldn’t be able to draw without it now. Hope that helps a bit!

    • Have you tried Clip Studio? You get a free trial with movink

      • I haven’t tried Clip Studio yet. To be honest, I usually stick to one app so I can really get comfortable and skilled with it, in my case, that’s Procreate. It also helps me create resources that are really tailored to that app. But of course it’s always fun to experiment, so I might give Clip Studio a little play sometime in the future!

    • Oh no! So sorry you are experiencing that problem. That usually happens when the file has somehow become corrupt during the download process. Would you mind deleting that weird PDF and clearing the cache on your browser and trying the download again? It might be helpful using a download manager on your browser (there should be free extension available for your browser), which will ensure the download runs smoothly. If the problem persists, please drop me an email so that I can assist you further: [email protected] thank you so much!

Hi Lisa, I think I already sent my question to your email but I will ask here. The workbook looks amazing, and I am hoping to find a video companion. I’ve been looking on youtube and on your pages but only find the introduction that is up above, Which of course is very thorough, but I am hoping you will have a video course that is a companion to the workbook. Any possibility of that? Thanks, Julie

    Reply
    • Hi Julie! I’m so glad you’re excited about the workbook!

At the moment, I won’t be creating accompanying video tutorials for it which is intentional. I designed the workbook specifically to encourage your own artistic instinct and workflow, rather than following along step by step with what I’m doing. With video tutorials, it can easily slip into copying, and the results often end up looking like my work rather than helping you develop your own voice as an artist.

The guide is filled with exercises, drawing prompts, and gentle structure to help you explore using shapes that turn into characters, build your linework confidence, and character creation in a way that’s personal to you. My goal is to help you build a drawing habit and workflow that feels natural to you. That’s where real growth (and style!) starts to happen

Lisa, I just wanted to tell you that I am beyond thrilled with your new book! I’m only midway through and have a
already learned so much. I have been doing watercolor and digital art for some time now, but in a highly realistic way. Your workbook is helping me to relax and be a more creative artist … and it is so fun! I truly love the prompts and that the information is not presented in a spoon fed way. Encouraging your readers to explore their own style is such a helpful way to learn and grow. Many thanks for this wonderful book!
