Is formal design education worth it?

So many of us are self taught in our creative fields. Even though I went the formal route to study graphic design, I’m actually almost completely self-taught when it comes to illustration. I did art at school, but that’s about it. So I’ve experienced both sides of the coin.

Often not having that degree or diploma under your belt can make you feel inadequate, and some of us even feel like a fake! These are tough emotions and thoughts to deal with especially when you’re trying to start a freelance career or change your career.

That’s why we felt this was such an important topic to discuss. In our latest episode of The Honest Designers Show, we tackle whether formal education as a designer is worth it or not. I think you’d be surprised by some of our answers.
